Other Types of Gifts

In addition to the Ways of Giving described separately—Scholarships and Endowed Fellowships, Memorial and Honorary Gifts, and Planned Giving—there are other types of gift you can make.
null Archival Accessions
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research's collections of East European Jewish history and culture have been amassed in part through in-kind gifts from the public and other institutions. From the very beginning we have collected books, manuscripts, maps, newspapers, broadsides, posters, eyewitness testimonies from the Holocaust period, photographs, music and theater scores, and other items that chronicle the history and culture of Jews in Eastern Europe and their descendants today in America, Israel, and across the globe. Should you have materials you think might be appropriate for the YIVO Archives or Library, please contact the staff member listed below to discuss a potential gift. Some gifts may qualify as tax-deductible donations.

null Matching Gifts
Check with your employer to see if they offer a matching gift program so that your contribution can be doubled or even tripled in value. In most cases, you fill out a form that you can send in with a donation, which we then complete and return to your employer.
null Gifts of Securities
It may be advantageous to make your gift directly in the form of securities rather than in cash. An outright gift of long-term, appreciated secruties is exempt from capital gains taxes and you will receive a charitable tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities. Many donors feel this is the easiest and most effective way to support YIVO.
null Endowed Funds
You may also want to establish a named fund to remember or honor friends and loved ones. YIVO staff can help you create a fund for a special purpose.

For more information on any of these ways of giving, you can e-mail Suzanne Leon, Director of Development at sleon@yivo.cjh.org, or call her at 917-606-8227. You can also write to her at our mailing address:
