| LECTURE & PERFORMANCE |
| A musical tour of Yiddish popular song from the immigrant East End 1880-1940 - surprising, moving, funny and cheeky. Vivi Lachs is a London based Yiddish folk singer with the band Klezmer Klub specialising in the Anglo-Yiddish popular songs of London's Jewish East End. She worked for 25 years in schools education, published a popular manual for teachers on multimedia and has lectured internationally on educational issues. She is now a full time PhD student in history and music analysing Yiddish poetry and song that tell of the British immigrant experience 1880-1914. It explores the role creative Yiddish texts have in political and social debate of the time. Vivi is an experienced speaker and performer, combining images, archive recordings and a cappella singing. |
