YIVO's first exhibition at its new home—YIVO At 75: Milestones & Treasures— opened in October 2000 at the Center for Jewish History. The exhibition celebrated the breadth and richness of YIVO's history and chronicled the role YIVO has played in Jewish scholarship and communal life in Europe and the United States.
Curated by YIVO Archivist Fruma Mohrer and designed by Paul Hunter of Artel Exhibitions, the show traced YIVO's history from its founding in Vilna, Lithuania in 1925, through the Holocaust and the post-1940 period in the United States. The story of East European Yiddish language, literature, and culture was also told through YIVO's collections. The exhibition included many rare documents, books, and artifacts never before displayed in public.
The exhibition was accompanied by a catalog, edited by Fruma Mohrer and Roberta Newman (English) and Dr. Paul Glasser and David Rogow (Yiddish). This catalog is available for purchase at the Center's Fanya Gottesfeld Heller Book Store.
